MTV 's 16 and Pregnant

After watching the episodes of MTV's 16 and Pregnant it got me wondering on wither or not if a certain age makes you a good parent. Some of the girls on the show had a lot of growing up to do and some were showing that they were capable of being good parents. That is a lot for a young girl to have go at it alone. But the thing I am wondering if older make you the better parent. I seen people who are older and make just as many mistakes as the younger ones. I have a younger cousin who was pregnant at the age of 16. She had a few people a little disappointed in her. Today she is graduating on time this spring and has plans to go to college and make a life for
her and her daughter. I am so proud of her because she puts her child first and make sure her
baby's needs comes first. She not out with friends and leaving her child out with any and everyone. When you see her she is always with her baby besides when she is at school. After watching her become the great parent she is I hope that could be as good as she is.

  1. Really good questions and observations, Nola. So, what do you think? Is age all that is required or is it knowledge and acceptance of the responsibilities?

It's true that the realities of economics and stability are key to being able to begin parenting - in our culture it's generally better to finish education and have some ability to support oneself/family before parenting, but it's not a requirement. Awareness, support, dedication - sounds as if your cousin has had good support and it's great to have a model to look up to.
