The Nontraditional Woman
Here I am at the rightful age of 26 four years knocking on thirty. Why is it because I am unmarried and childless that family members and others have given me the label as an old maid or future cat lady just because I decided to enjoy my twenties and make a better plan for the rest of my life. For one thing I don't really care for cats but do I really have to be looked as those things. Why should woman have to follow the traditions of marriage and baby carriage. Don't get me wrong I can see those things later in my future but do I really have to set a timeline on it. I have labeled myself as Nontraditional I want to live my life by my own rules and make things happen. I looked back in my yearbook just the other day a look at some of my former classmates and out f almost 85 only about 20 of us females are unmarried and childless a lot of my female classmate either was pregnant during or right after high school and some married right after high school. A lot of them did that because they were following the footsteps of their parents or pressured from others. By waiting I think I was able to do things that I might wouldn't of been able to do if I was married with kids. I see more and more woman each day waiting on wifey and motherhood. I myself feel it has made me stronger and more independent person and more able to handle any of life's challenges that may come my way making able to become the best wife and mother I could be when that time come without no regrets.

Nola, don't let numbers hang you up. Enjoy life as a professional woman for a while after graduation - it's what the statistics show that most American women are doing now. You're not alone - nearly 1/4 of your class is choosing this too.
ReplyDeleteIn the 19th C, unmarried women were called 'unclaimed flowers' - such a passive term! Claim your life just as you are claiming your education - that in itself is extremely attractive to a future mate!
